The Burghers of Calais
View of the Burghers of Calais sculpture at Victoria Tower Garden with the illuminated Houses of Parliament in the background. This emotive sculpture by Auguste Rodin commemorates an event at the end of the siege of Calais port-town, France in 1347 under England's King Edward III. The town was spared when six of its leaders wore nooses under their necks and carried the keys to the town and castle.
